Why the hell hasn't this oil well been plugged yet?

They estimate it's leaking four times more oil than BP's estimates.
Maybe BP are hoping the well will run out of oil.

so how would you use those to fix the problem? come up with an idea. i know BP has been telling their engineers not to do anything, right?

im not saying it is... but its easy enough to turn a car into an arc welder, why not a sub? and these subs are super accurately controlled.. i cant imagine its outside the realm of possibility.

Because that's exactly what I said. Eat a dick.

Operating in a vacuum is easy, we overcame that decades ago. Yet we still can't function properly in relatively shallow waters.

what's under that well is a huge find.

was going to be producing a fuck ton of oil when it was to start production

i kinda agree with TS...

we really should have EVERYTHING on this. i dont understand why they dont have navy subs doing something.. i mean its only what? an 18" pipe? cant they drop explosives from subs onto that fucker and just collapse it on itself? i dont understand...

i mean that REALLY couldnt work? to create an ever growing mass on concrete to cover the entire thing? that video stream doesnt look like its throwing THAT much pressure out..

you cannot create a thousand foot deep crater and drop a thousand foot thick layer of compressed, layered earth on top of it a mile underneath the FUCKING OCEAN before pressure blows a hole in the falling debris, no.

fucking OT seafloor experts. at least let them find a good solution. look at chernobyl. they used robots to crudely build a sarcophagus around the reactor. now 20+ years later its crumbling and it could be like the disaster just happened.

With enough resources, it could be done in 2 weeks. Where are the fucking resources? Why isn't this the number one priority of this country?

i sorta agree with this logic... at this point i feel like they should just be dropping tons of shit on it and waiting for it all to pile up. i mean if you just start shooting a fuckton of water hardening crete down there, wont the weight eventually shut this bitch down? i get that the pressure coming up is immense, but eventually youll have a mountain down there.

Is there a conspiracy that "they're" doing this on purpose so gas prices will raise yet?

Have any of their efforts yet been to actully stop the flow of oil? They tried 2 funnels and now a smaller hose in the main hose to get some of the oil to a collection ship.

dead serious... you dont think they could rig a research sub to arcweld itself? you also dont think its cold enough down there to solidify the metal quick enough to cause a good seal?

are we concerned about the integrity of the pipe beneath the surface? is that the issue here?

You can't weld that deep. So no. And the water is only in the 40's It's the pressure that's the hardest element to work against.

It's bullshit really, people are so caught up with ideas of going to Mars and here we're caught with our pants down over a mishap ~1 mile below the surface.
