Why the hell hasn't this oil well been plugged yet?

i find it hard to believe BP doesn't know how much oil they are losing right down to the drop.
 
wait.. bigger hole? how far below the sea floor is the oil pocket? its gotta be DEEP otherwise the oil would have broken the surface on its own, amirite? i figure you blow the fuck out of the top of the pipe and it collapses on itself. its only 18" i think.. right?
 
Our country's most valuable possession, its land, is being destroyed at this very moment.


Why isn't there someone in the most powerful country in the world...who can speak up, make an executive decision and order all available Government resources to work with the oil companies to fix this problem?


I wish we had someone like that.


Instead we have politcians blaming each other, politcians blaming oil companies, oil companies blaming each other.... we have had hearings on whos fault it is...and who caused it. We have been worried about whos going to pay for it...

JUST FIX THE FUCKING THING. We can sent people to the moon 40 years ago, but we cant fix this shit?
 
drill a hole right next to the well, place explosives halfway down the length of the well, detonate.

what the fuck? a sub arcwelding itself into the hole? yeah, that's super easy and quick to engineer
 
depends what it costs i suppose.. some of the tapes and sealants i use would be unbelievably expensive to purchase in bulk.. if its even possible to make it that fast.
 
Seeing as other have said anywhere from 20,000 barrels to 100,000 barrels, I'll agree that BP is probably trying to downplay the amount. But to expect them to have an exact value based on satellite imagery and video of the leak is unreasonable.
 
wait.. why cant you weld that deep? i assume the principles of underwater welding still hold true at that depth? does it create an issue for the metal to bond?
 
I remember when they said this thing would take "up to 3 months" to fix.


And that was an acceptable amount of time? Oil leaking out, for 3 months?
 
at the morons who think its an easy fix and that its all a conspiracy. BP is losing millions by the day, you think they don't wanna fix this shit?
 
Yeah, they definitely didn't spend tons of time trying to get the BOP functional.
