Why the fixation with Al Gore? ?

Why are climate change "sceptics" almost all fixated with Al Gore?

They love to lampoon him. They mention him at every opportunity. They're forever pointing out that he's making money out of selling books, and doing talks about global warming.

Personally, I don't think this affects the science of anthropogenic climate change in any way, so I just wonder why they do it.

Is it that in this theory of theirs (about how the UN, NASA and most climate scientists are conspiring to redistribute wealth), Gore somehow fulfills a role similar to the Emperor in Return Of The Jedi?
 
Also the role of Jesus in the 'global warming religion', karl marx in our (agw proponents) giant mission to overthrow capitalism, etc.

You have to remember that the main reason most deniers became deniers is that they never liked Gore much when he was VP. Therefore when he started talking about this concept of global warming (darn the fact that it had been around for decades before he started making it public) they naturally were very skeptical. They turned on their right wing talk radio and their heroes there started questioning it as well, and batta bing the skeptic minority was born.
