Why the difference in build quality between E and N series?

Yeah, I'm thinking that's my preference as well. I hate flips and sliders aren't my cup of tea. I think the E90 is the only future phone that won't be a traditional candy but of course it's main phone function is so I still sort of win. The N73 was easily the most comfortable "talking" Nokia I've ever owned but it's physical shortcomings; joystick, volume keys, creaky casing, are what forced me to give it up. Otherwise it was one kick *** ophne.

I agree the E series are built like bricks, but that is what they are and look like, bricks.

The N series are fashion phones with brains. Think super model with a PhD. You wouldn't put her in a football game. The N series also pioneer design. The N95 has a dual slider, which in IMHO is useless, maybe they could have shaved 2-4mm from the N95 if it was a single slide design.

I have to say I have no build quality issues with my MIF N95. The MBN has the better firmware, IMO. But it wobbled and rattled. The volume button is not even. My $25 dollar E62 could hurt someone.

Sure its a dual slider but I wouldn't say N series phones are pioneers in design other then maybe the N91 and a little the N95 maybe in tech but not design. Sliders have been around for some time even before N series where out.

N73 wasn't a pioneer with the design being almost the same as a small version of the 668x series with the sliding camera cover.

N70 and N72 are in the same boat

N76 is pretty much a razor

N75 is another flip no big deal

N80 is a slider with allot of features but still a slider

The N90,N93, N93i are phones that took the 6260 design and put smartphone and cam on it

Nokia had many tries with series 40 sliders so there is no reason for the E65 slider to be great but the slider for the N95 which came out after and is more expensive to be poor.

Its almost as if Nokia is testing a form factor on the general public. People don't pay 750$US to be beta testers for phones.

If its a production unit it should feel like it and thats final.

well said
ridiculous...fashion phones with brains lol!

First of all, the E-series all have superior build over the N-series, even in terms of the cheap'er' plasticy feeling on most of the N-series.

Additionally, who cares about the 'dual-slider' N95...it's an unnecessary-increases-the-cost-increases-the-size-and-is-more-susceptible-to-damage-when-dropped apparatus.

Why couldn't they just put the buttons at the side of the phone?

Sometimes, less is better. It's all just 'wow factor' with no substance (like the avg blonde)

Well the rule in most cases is the less moving parts there are the less chances of of issues.

Oddly enough most of the time it will not seem to apply to E series. The E70 should have had some problems considering the form factor but didn't seem to. Also as ive mentioned already unfortunately the E65 is a perfect example of Nokia knowing how to make a slider correctly but just not taking the time to transfer that knowledge to the N95

In the end the form factor will not and should not make the phone but for any cell phone company to prioritize form over quality is no acceptable.

If your going to try something new you better make it good. A perfect example of this is the S710a from SE and the swivel. It was one of the firsts but they made sure it worked properly before using it.

The N95 feature wise is great but if you put the engine of a porsche in the body the quality of a Gremlin are you still going to be willing to pay a porsche price?

Hi all,

Up until recently i was the owner of a N93 and even after 9 months of use that was still perfect nothing lacking in the build quality IMHO. Now i am the owner of a E61 and i have to say this is just a great device build quality is very good as is the Music player and Video playback. In fact owning this is what has made me sell the N93 i am converted for now anyway not even the slightest bit interested in the N95 but then sliders are really not my thing.

The N93 and N93i have always been considered solid phones as well. I've never had the opportunity to handle either one so I can't really comment. The N93i looks like its build quality is far superior to any other N but looks can be deceiving I suppose.

I would imagine so but Steve Litchfield from AAS has commented more than once that he things the hinges will become extremely loose over time. One would hope that it's just a symptom of being a proto but after the N95 slider debacle anything is possible.

My friend owned the E61... solid as a brick. Compared to all of the N series phones I've owned or tried... they don't even compare. E-Series has better builds hands down.
