Why the difference in build quality between E and N series?

Surprised to hear you say so!

I still have mine and it's still the fastest (S40V3) GUI I've ever experienced, and the build quality of my unit (MBN) was rock solid. It was my first slider and it encouraged me to get my E65 when I finally decided to go to Series 60.

In fact, there are quite few features on my 6270 that I wish were on my E65!

.

I think it's the materials and lack of moving parts that make the E's so much more durable. Every E i've touched has had a real ridgid feel to it and perhaps they had that in mind. The N95's rubbery back makes it appealing to hold onto and snap pictures. The N's have a softer feel to them and that's why I made the joke about them being sissy phones. They're really not poorly made as much as the design just wasn't perfected imo. How the N95 could be released with a huge gap in the plastic slide is just a flat out joke. It pissed me off so much that part of me wants the ipwned to take it out back and spank it's ***. Then maybe Nokia will realize that the 8890's with the loose back and the 8800's loose back and the n80's loose slider and the N73's loose lenscover and creaky volume keys and the N95's loose slider (holy mother of run ons but you get the point) They need to learn that we are beyond forgiving their build flaws and will no longer marvel in their ability to technologically wow us. Honeymoon is over imo....we've seen the light with phones like the N93 and N95. Impress us with an N that feels like an E and perhaps I won't keep selling thme and running back to the friggin enterprise.

beam me up.

....look at the materials used in that one! I've messed around with my friends 8gb and it's build like a tank....but that's the only one. I know many people will be quick to flame as they have blind unconditional love for their N series phones but I've got plenty of experience with both and it's a no brainer.

Nice thread Fido as most people don't really harp on the fact that the E's flat out own!

I have tried three N95's(don't ask me why) .. but, none of them wobbled. I am not kidding when I say that. If it makes any difference all three are MIF. N91 is rock solid. N73 is creaky as they used lighter plastic to make the phone light. It is a design flaw. N80 build is solid but the slider is wobbly as it is Nokia first experiment as a slider.
N93/i are very solid as well. So you cannot say that N series build quality in general is bad.

S40 and S60 are not the same so for sure its faster but as for the 6270 I had 2 one made by Nokia and one Made in Germany and they both had issues.

But thats the odd part E65 from what people say has a great build but the N95 which came after has many issues

Personally I don't think that the E-series has better build quality, as the N91, N91 8GB, N70 , N93, and N93i proves this.
I also think that Nokia pioneers new formfactors in the Nseries, by the time they use it in the Eseries it's been tried alot.

Generally I think Nokia should go back to the N70 days and make those solid feeling phone. The N95 is no excuse, especially looking at the excelent quality of the E65. On the other hand the E65 doesn't have a dual slider.

3 out of 3? With those odds you should be on a plane to Vegas yesterday! Everyone else has mentioned a wobble including those with Finish made models. I think Carsmovies had 2 MIF and one MBN and he mentioned the F one's wobbled and jobbled.

N Series phones are way superior in terms of look & the build quality with an exception of N73 & N80. N80 is the best looking phone but the only issue is with the slider.

Having said that ...E series phones are too simple(No/average cam, average music player, average speakers & inside memory card door) & they have no moving parts and are non sliders except E65. So, it is easy to design them.

I strongly disagree with that! You could kill someone with the E61 or E50. They are flat out bricks. The N95 would shatter into 1000 "moving" pieces if you launched it at a co-worker!

my fully loaded $45k Acura MDX has so many defects developed for 3 years of use, i did not have even half of the troubles with way cheaper, 6 yo Lexus RX-300. N95 sucks. period

I think I could easily kill a co worker with my E62, with enough speed, spin and a bottom corner to the temple, it would definitely be devistating

I was gonna say the build quality of my E65 pwns my N95 and N80...but then I just remembered that the keypad lights on my E65 don't work anymore

if i remember correctly, the N-Series and E-Series are designed by two separate design teams. The conservative designs of the E-Series are probably a key reason for their high build quality.
