Why the cars give me priority at intersections when I bike?

At small neighborhood intersections, when I ride the bike, the cars give me priority even when they are at my right.
Why so, since the driving manual says that the bicycle is treated like a vehicle in this situation?
 
They are just being defensive. They don't know who you can trust, so it's better for them to let you go first then to go and have an accident.
