If it's yours, I think it's because of the examples it might set for the kids, because they make their own views about stereotypes from a young age, and also you have to deal with their parents or other important figures in the children's lives if you're bisexual or homosexual.
If it's the children's sexuality, then it's important because they'll be confused and worried because they're not "Like the others" because of their sexuality.
Either way, you have to be understanding and patient when working with children and sexual orientations.
If you mean sexual situations, then it's important because you need to be able to set good examples and make sure that they're not getting the wrong ideas (For example, the "douching/cleansing" myth with the teen girls)
