First of all I would like to say that I am neither a liberal nor a conservative, there are views that I share with both...I voted for Obama because I truly think he is an oustanding leader and also because of the last 8 years which the best word to describe them is : disaster
Having said that I do not marry myself to a president and if Obama fails I will be the first to admit it and regret it. I have voted for Reagan and Bush senior but also for Clinton and Obama, so it is my purpose here to share my points of view here specially for young people because I see (just because the way they write) that most people here is very young and do not recall or do not know recent history:
Ok, lets start:
* In 1980 Reagan was the hope and star of the GOP, however many inside the party disagreed with Reagan, specially on the economy even his future VP and then rival George Bush harshly criticized him suggesting Reagan was crazy and called his economic plan "voodoo economics" , I remember at that time I was not sure either about Reagan's plan....well it took time but about in 1983 the ecpnomy was decent again and then it was very good...Reagan turned out to be not bad after all.
*In 1988 most people wanted to continue Reagan policies and we voted for Bush (I did)..the guy seemed the best qualified for the job: Great student,Great businessman, war hero, great sportsman, congressman, ambassador,CIA chief,VP with Reagan I have to say that at that time I didnt hesitate to vote for him, I can hardly remember somebody with such an impressive resume...like no other president before....well to me he turned out to be a very mediocre below-average president: bleak, uninspiring, weak and the economy was a disaster again by 1992
*In 1992 I really was against Clinton, why? He seemed too young and unexperienced ...after Bush with such a great resume why would i vote for a guy that looked like 35 and had experience of governing a little state like Arkansas ...so even though Bush had disappointed me I voted for him again...luckly for the country Clinton was elected and AGAIN it took time but by 1996 the economy took off and the late 90's all the way to 2000 I have to say that it was a wonderful time for america: gas was cheap, economy was awesome,we were at peace...so in 1997 i didnt hesitate and voted for Clinton this time...Clinton has been one of the biggest political surprises for me
In 2001 I decided to vote for Gore, mainly because I never trusted Bush and since I saw him in the primaries I felt he was a very affable guy but not qualified for president of the US and this time (sadly) I was right...Bush turned out to be one of the worst leaders I have ever seen: unprepared, ignorant and stubborn ...when you have been around for a while you realize when a president goes to war for the right reasons and for me going into Iraq was a mistake since the beginning and we were embarrased by the outcome: no weapons found and a terrible planned war which damaged our image abroad forever not to mention that the whole world laughed at us for having a president who couldnt even speak proper English (me neither but with all due respect I have never run for president)...
So we just elected a new president and I have seen this many times before...it is like a movie which its ending is still about to be seen ...If you are an american and you are a patriot no matter how you voted you should wish Obama the best, many people argue that Obama is the opposite of Reagan but THAT alone does not necessarily means Obama wont succeed: remember often there are more than 1 way to do something right..besides times have changed a lot what was good in the 80's might not be good now but WHO KNOWS????
so my advice to you is to not judge a president because you could be terrible wrong and look dumb later...imagine If Obama succeeds then what are you gonna say??? but we have to wait theres no choice...it might take 2 years to see a full recovery I hope so but maybe not...iof that is the case well...maybe I will vote differently on the next election
God bless America
