Why people have crushes with animated charaters?

I think there is more to it than that. Some fans consider a character's flaws a massive turn-on. Heck, I think there are more fans of a fully developed character than a two dimensional one. Not that two dimensional characters don't have legions of fan-whores as well. Just look at all the fanfiction out there.
 
I think Univerrse B (The Universe with The stuff you love in it) is much better then Universe A (The Universe we live in, And I'm not talking about Futurama) .

Whenever people bring this up I always respong with a question. Why do people have crushes on Britney Spears? She's just as fake as a cartoon character.
 
Even with their flaws, animated characters are often more "perfect" than people are in real life.

Also, animated characters lead more interesting lives (they usually have to, to be on TV). That could help people's crushes on them.
 
Well personally I think it's fine to have small crushes on characters or celebrities. Nothing wrong with thinking a character's cute and all. It's when people get dullusional and completely obsessed about it that I start to wonder. I mean, I've came across kids and even adults (in their 30s) saying that they want to marry {insert attractive bishounen or bishoujo}, have seven kids, live somewhere on a remote island, and live happily ever after. :shrug:

I wholeheartedly agree with the personality theory. Why? Why does any person have a crush? Besides striking resemblance to their own inner imago? Personality, of course! They either compliment the person or can relate to them. Which is why so many people like Raven from TT. Not only is she a great character but she is the most fleshed out and definately the one most fans can relate to.

I would agree. With Japan's facination with the western world, sometimes they intentially create beautifully drawn characters to keep viewer interest, sometimes exposing more than normal for the female anatomy, such as more cleavage and what not. Also we see more stronger woman roles, and less of the woman in distress that needs saving every time. In doing so, it can create a larger fan base. I've seen many threads about fans debating on whether one character is hotter than another, most notably between Mai and Tea on Yu-Gi-Oh is a prime example.
 
Well, look at that Yu-Gi-Oh GX show. The females on there are supposed to be pre-teens or something, but they're built like chicks in their 20's. 0_0

Excellent point about Raven; many people find her so alluring even though the outfit she is most seen wearing is... a hood. So the fanboys out there are most likely identifying with that personality of her's. I find it interesting that out of all the guys I know who watch the show, Raven is their perferred crush, despite the fact that Starfire dresses like a pop star.

* Princess Sally, Bunnie Rabbot, and Lupe of the Wolf Pack from Sonic the Hedgehog Saturday AM.
* Babs Bunny, Shirley the Loon, and Fifi from Tiny Toons.
* Minerva Mink from Animaniacs.
* Clawdia from Fighting Foodons.
* Cleo from Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats.
* Francine, Muffy, Sue Ellen, Fern, Prunella, and Molly from Arthur.
* Fawn Deer from Bonkers/Raw Toonage.
 
Who didn't have a crush on Cleo from Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats? That's what I wanna know.

When I was a kid I kinda had a "crush" on Lydia Deetz from the Beetlejuice cartoon. But it was really more like a "It'd be cool if we were friends" sorta crush.

I'm a freak.
