Most of my family have Rogers digital for Portuguese, and when the package became available, most of them Ordered the package. I think a reason bell didn't make anything off it was because they didn't have any other Portuguese channels hence not having the client base to begin with ( unlike rogers who already has a large base of Portuguese client's subscribing to the Portuguese channels.

Yes, i know i can re-distribute the 1 FTA signal via a splitter to all the tv's.. But It would be a great deal of work either using diplexers or full lines to the tvs. It can be done but Im much to lazy to do all that work lol. And as for the poster who said i'd need bell set top box's for my tv's to view RTP if they had it.. i know that. I already have 6 box's lol. ( 3 bedrooms, kitchen,Basement, Garage)
So I'd be happy to spend a few bucks a month to get the channel. As for Setanta.. I know its on FTA right now on AMC4, but i dont really watch it cuz all the Portugal games simulcast ( well most of them) on RTP. Nothing else i'd watch on Setanta.

Where's your proof of this?! I am not Portuguese but according to what I read, they are the 4 largest ethnic group in Canada so there has to be demand for Portuguese channels?! Its not like they carried RTPi before and then dumped it (like some of the French channels), then I could understand your comment but since they have never offered any Portuguese channels how do you know they can't make any money off them?? Why not offer RTPi the way Rogers does, in a package with FPTV and TV Globo Internacional (top Brazilian channel)?!

Why were they offering a Portuguese soccer package when they don't carry any Portuguese channels, that doesn't make any sense to me?! Portuguese subs aren't going to sign up for Bell just for the soccer package, which was way over priced IMO.

I read that supposedly they plan to launch more internationals, as well as HD, when the new satellite launches. I wonder if that is still the plan and what Internationals they plan to add, perhaps Portuguese is on the list?!

The fact that they don't offer it is proof enough. Bell is a comapny. Companies want to make money. Unless forced to do so by the CRTC, Bell and other providers only offer services and channels that can make a profit. Either not enough people have called asking for it or their surveys have indicated low potential. Satellite bandwidth is expensive, in particular compared to cable. If they get enough people asking, they will carry any channel that they legally can carry.

Here's my experience with the Super Liga 1st year I signed up for $259 CDN with 5 games per week garanteed, alot of the games was not Broadcast and after calls to Bell ExpressVU they said it was out of their control.

2nd year it went up to $329. CDN. which after several letters from BEV and phone calls asking me to sign another year, I said I'm not signing because the service is not reliable, and too expensive.

Dishnet offers SportTV and Sic International when games are not on with 24 hrs coverage some are repeat programing.

My conlcusion I've had RTPi in my house for 10 years and they show 1 game live and 1 game tape delayed which usually are the top 2 games in Portugal

So why would you pay $329. CDN for an extra 3 games and after the games the channel is closed.

I also cancel my ExpressVU and now just use a Digital antenna which gives me 11 local channels and RTPi in my dish and lots of Spanish channels.

Yes their problem is lack of space on the Sats. People want HDTV first and foremost....so that squeezes them out.

That being said I dont know why people would want to line up to pay 15$ a month for an FTA channel.

Setanta is not supposed to be FTA

Home2US uses the AMC4 satellite and they just started carrying Setanta and it says $15/month on their website. Not sure why it is not encrypted?

Globecast WorldTV use Galaxy25 and they charge $15/month for Setanta and on lynsat the Globecast Setanta channel appears to be encrypted even though they have another Setanta channel that is not encrypted?

Not sure why they are leaving the channel unencrypted but it probably is not going to be left that way.
