Why no LEGO series?

Teletoon (FR) just aired tonight the LEGO Atlantis 'movie' and I gotta wonder... why just half an hour? Why not longer? It was pretty decent and it could have used some fleshing out.

Why not turn it into an actual TV series for exemple? Or make one out of the Space Police franchise? Why didn't they make one when they had EXO Force?!

I don't get it.

I think a LEGO TV serie in CGI wouldn't be that hard to produce (mini-figs aren't that much more complicated than Reboots binomes) and would probably be pretty popular so why aren't taking the plunge?

I don't think a TV series could keep up with the always changing toyline.

A Bionicle series could probably work, though.

I was always disappointed that Lego never did a series of Bionicle shorts sort of like the first Gendy Tarkosky Clone Wars shorts. I think that format would work best with the vast majority of their franchises.

Ever since it first came out, I thought BIONICLE: The Animated Series would potentially be great.

As for other themes, I could see an Agents series, or possibly a LEGO City one.
I guess it would depend on how well that Atlantis special did. They might get encouraged to make a full series. I thought of that as a pilot.

Bionicle worked nicely as a comic and each movie (at least the first few) would finish a story arc in the comic. A Bionicle series that adapts the comic would be awesome.

Well, at one point Traveling Tales (the creator of most recent lego video games) was going to make a Tv series based on Lego Batman, but nothing ever came out of it besides a short online pilot.

Also, there are rumors that Hero Factory (Bionicle's replacement) is going to be supported by a six-part TV miniseries, although this has yet to be confirmed. If this is true, and if it works well, it might lead to other miniseries based on other lego themes.

But, I think Lego has mostly stayed away from making a full-fledged carton series, because unlike many toy companies they are very willing to end entire themes if they are not selling well or if they are getting stale (as opposed to simply rebooting them over and over again). In fact, most lego themes besides City, Starwars, and Castle only last one to two years these days, and thus making cartoon series based on them won't work for the long run.

They did do something like that with Flash in the early years, until the company that made the flash shorts went out of business, and rather than find a new one, Lego just decided to stick with the CGI for the commercials they already had.

A bionicle TV series following the books would be great, but Greg has always said that a bionicle anything needs to advertise the current toys(or else lego won`t pay for it), so the possibility is close to zero at this point.

The story looks like it's heading for a climax anyway, although slightly rushed. ( A year would probably have been spent on Bota Magna after Bara Magna year 2)

The movies, nomatter how much Greg is involved, seem to overkiddify the carachters from their written incarnations.

Tuma is the perfect example of this, he was nowhere near as evil or idiotic in the story serials as he was in the movie.

How is that any different from other toyetic franchise? Beside the turnover rate for LEGO set is usually around a year. They release sets multiple times a year but they never replace a specific size set until the next year. LEGO sets have a pretty long shelf life in general.

They could simply play the seasons as self-contained story with a begining, middle and ending that leaves enough opening if they want to keep the show going for another year.

Then if they retire that series of sets then they can just make a new show.
