I love my old Nokia 6800 (the one with a keyboard that flips out, I think that's the #). I bought it when I was with AT&T. Now I'm with Cingular and want a family plan and am told that my old cell phone won't work with Cingular. What's worse, is that phone is no longer made for Cingular. I find on Ebay that I can get something called an "unlocked" phone. What is that? Can I unlock the phone I have now? Why do I need a new phone?:rolleyes2

I was in the same boat with you when my mom got moved to cingular from at&t. When that happened my old Nokia stopped working and I couldn't make calls or recieve any until I got a Cingular phone but as far as an unlocked phone you can do that and you probably could get the phone that you have unlocked now so you won't have to go through the hassle of switching phones. I hope this was helpful.

unlock your phone and then ur good to go to use cingular on your phone, then get the media net settings at the nokia support website. Ur good to go, no signing up again needed. Dont listen to cingular on getting a new phone, ur phone will work with cingular as long as its GSM and supports 850Mhz and 1900Mhz.

Thanks!! I'm going to try that right away. Do you have any idea how I should get it unlocked?

Okay. Sorry to be so dumb, but I've never heard that expression. Can you give me an idea of where to turn?
thanks...

its unlocking a phone, but in cheesy terms. Basically what you need to provide is your IMEI number which is located at the back of your phone, so ull have to take off the battery to see and provide your carrier, based on those requirements, go to howardforums and go to the nokia unlocking forum. They will generate a subsidy code for you, which is an unlocking code so you will able to use your phone on cingular

No need to apologize. The only dumb question is one that's not asked. That sounded very zen-like.
