why my arms and hands go numb

i am a diesel mechanic and have been experienceing my arms and hands going numb for about 17 years i have been to several chiropractors and everyone hand a different opinon
my arms and hand are numd when i sleep i have gotten used to the pain but now they really hurt after i use a hammer i mean so bad they feel like my hand are going to explode they swell up so big my ring finger turns purple i hope someone can give me so real input
 
I think you need to see a neurologist, not a chiropractor. Sounds like a type of peripheral neuropathy - maybe ulnar nerve entrapment or fracture.

Depending on what the cause is, where the damage is and how bad it is, there are several different things they can do; surgery to relieve pressure on pinched nerves in the elbow or wrist, medication to reduce pain and pins and needle sensations, supplements (like vitamin B12), corticosteroid injections, physical therapy, etc.
