Problem is, they don't think and the death penalty is very much part of killing someone... stupid begets stupid.
The problem with working the murderers and rapist is useually there custody grade. They typically have really long sentances, so it is an extremely high liabilty to put them out on the roads in public. No politicians would put there neck out for that. That would be considered endangering the public. Another problem is all the liberal, crying bleeding hearts, claiming cruel and unusual punishment against those poor little murdering/ rapist!!
Where I work, we still have some so called chain gangs. They are minimum security Inmates that work on DOT squads, farm projects and roadside cleaning. We do not have nearly enough though.
Most of you have no idea how liberal the US Prison systems have become. It has gotten ridiculous!! You should hear some of the shit we get sued about. ( Death Row Inmate sues us because he did not have enough P nut butter on his sandwich). Crazy shit like this gets to court all the time and ends up costing the tax payers millions of dollars in legal fees.
Right now in my prison we are taking two death row Inmates to a cancer center 1 hour away for daily treatments. These treatments cost several thousand dollars daily. The average citizen can not get this kind of treatment.
I could go on and on but I will just get pissed and I don't want to bore you all.

Believe me when I tell you the truth is a lot stranger than fiction...
I spent 20 years as an Air Force OSI federal agent. Once I got called into the Base Commander's office because a nut case claiming to be the reincarnation of a 19th Century Indian warchief walked in and wanted guns to go free hostages in South America. They didn't know what to do with him, so they called me. I spent 20 minutes talking to him privately, became convinced he was a harmless nut...then told him this was a civilian matter and he should go down to the local FBI office...which is where he went.
(Boy, were they pissed...I had to buy their whole office pizza to make up for that one...but it was worth it.)

There is not a prison in the entire USA that is hard enough for those two.
Here's how it would go in my little imaginary world.
Both get convicted.
Both get shot in the face on the back porch of the courthouse.
Their families get charged for the cost of the bullets to kill them and the funeral costs for the four victims.
The executions are MANDITORY watching for all the punks currently in the local jail on minor stupid shit crimes.
End of story.
