Why mobiles phones in America sucks when compared to Europe !!?

I moved here from Uk couple of months ago and Mobile business here sucks U still get charged for incoming and U have to sign in a 2 year contract for a crappy phone and still have to pay Money for it LOL
People here havent heard about NOkia N95, N96 , Sony Erricson W series or Other Nice phones
all they have here is G1 iPHONE OR THE sidekick
Why is America so behind in technology
