Why did Mazda quit putting the 3.0 OHV V6 in their B Series trucks? The Mazda B series is almost a mirror image of the Ford Ranger but Ford continues to put the old style gas guzzling 3.0 engine in the Ranger. The 4.0 S.O.H.C. has a lot more horsepower and gets the same M.P.G. so I can understand why Mazda did this but I don't understand why Ford didn't.

They are exactly the same truck with a different badge. The most likely reason for still using the 3.0 is people assume big engine = bad mileage without actually looking at the facts. As you said that 3.0L is a crappy very old engine. The 4 cylinder is too small to be useful unless they just use the truck to commute. People that want to use it as a truck will want a V6. More choices means something for everybody.

Mazda sells very few trucks. Its just easier to offer less choices.
