Why make us order Rush, Equator and A&E HD?

I hate TV the AHT target in my call center is 595 seconds, but I belive it varies from a call center to the other...

Phage why don't you call us to switch to the new HD pack (there is no extra cost if you get the Genesis HD pack)?

So instead, you want us all to call? And that's somehow cheaper? You gotta be kidding!

Besides, think of how cheap it would be to just run a database query and switch out one field.

And most likely you are also paying between $3 to $10 more for the programming because you needs more themes to cover almost the same amount of channels.

Thats what happen to me anyway.

Bell ExpressVu currently "gives away for free" 4 HD channels. There are a few in preview (such as these HiFidelity ones); and others tied to SD channels packs like TMN, most of the French HD channels, TSN and Premium Sports.

Without doing a careful count, there are probably 15 or so included in the HD Programming Pack ($10/mth) -- included HDNet, Discovery, etc. Given programmers fees, it's hard to believe Bell is making any money on this pack -- the object right now is to get enough good channels lit up to gain a solid base and then bring prices and packaging to a sustainable level.

I have frequently called these four HiFidelity channels "eye candy" which wear thin after a few months. There are a LOT of repeats. These might be nice to have to showcase your set, or enjoy once through ... but if the choice is pay $5 per month for them or turn them off ... I suspect many people would turn them off.

So I vote for option 3: Bell is trying to gauge interest in order to make some hard choices like trimming the HiFidelity channels (or re-inventing them as 2 or 3 channels instead of 4) in order to launch 1 or 2 of: Showcase, National Geographic, MMore from TMN and a 3rd channel from Movie Central.

Plus, CBC West HD was formally announced in April as "coming soon" and the removal of Planete and EuroNews used as part of the rationale.

Spotsnet and Raptors are included in the HD pack only if you suscribe to the SD version of it...

So yes if you do not have the Sports 1 and Sports 2 or Raptors pick and pack it will represents in increse in you price on top of additing the HD pack

Sportsfan read between the lines...at no extra charge if you already suscribe to HD TV pack

Of course it is cheaper for clients to call...at the same time we will try to make a sales attempt, like we do on every call, and it might result in some extra revenus for Express Vu

We don't have a system that would allow us to retrive let's say all account with that theme or that theme. If we wereto do so we would have to do it manually. At the numbers of accounts we have you could imagine that this would be totally crazy!

All the time I see old HD value pack I personnaly make the switch, nut many not all my collegues will do it

"Get Serious! You think that someone will go account by account to see if they have the old or current HD pack?"

Seriously, there is this new technology called "computers".

Computers keep track of stuff like client addresses, phone numbers and programming packages. It's the same technology Bell uses to turn off people's service to their cottages or trailers in the southern U.S.

Unless Bell programs their computers in COBOL or uses punch cards, it should be relatively easy to identify all current old HD Pack subscribers.
;)

Finally some truth. As usual, just another route to get their hand even further into your pocket...

When I call a CSR I want service, not upsell...

For what? To get some free channels?

Sounds like one of those commercials that says No Purchase Necessary, must be of legal drinking age... And then you find out you really do have to buy something.

I always though the bait and switch was illegal.

Now that sounds like OMNIBUS programming that *c used to do in order to effeciently use bandwidth until more HD became available and something Bev lobbied hard against and won (cry babies) and now they were interested in doing that with some content a while back because they burnt a whole HD channel on some service that runs but a few HD hours per day and doing the omnibus thing actually made sense.

Funny how it's no good unless it's your own idea.
Just piss poor planning as far as I can see.
Try to grab HD market share with 'eye candy' and now that they have it and subs want REAL content, there they are looking stupid.

Nobody said that they were *only* offered as freevu to legacy clients! The point is that, yes, they were offered to ALL... but when they stopped the freevu the ONLY people that could get them re-added were those on non-grandfathered packages. I myself HAD to switch away from my Ultimate 7 to a new all-in-one package if I wanted to continue to get these channels.

So if BEV can look us in the eye and tell us that this was not yet again another intentional strategy on BEV's part to get us Ultimate7's to switch our programming packages after MONTHS of other enticements, PPV credit offerings, not allowing programming changes, and legacy price increases then BEV must think we are pretty niave!!! ;)

Actually there is a cost more broadly if you have to switch away from your legacy package to go from "HD old" to "HD new"... see above!

I do not believe this is not the case under "HD pack old". When I still had my legacy package along with its HD package I also got Raptors-HD WITHOUT subscribing to the SD version of it. Apparently there is a glitch in the BEV system that provides this channel gratis for those with legacy packages. I believe that this is what I_Want_My_HDTV was trying to point out in his original post.

There was a time when BEV allowed legacy customers to make programming changes including adding the HD package (at that time it was what's now referred to as "HD value pack old"). But as of about a year ago as a strategy to get grandfathered people off their packages they FROZE all programming changes. In other words if you wanted ot make a change -- including adding the HD package -- then you would have to convert to a new package. Fortunately I added my HD pack before they implemented this policy. But for current legacy customers your are SOL unless you convert.

I will eventually I guess. I'm just not motivated enough to getting off by butt for those channels. Maybe when National Geographic HD is added...

Hopefully that doesn't screw the customer up. I had a similar situation where an agent "upgraded" my cell phone account during a simple inquiry where I did not end up requesting any change in service. Since my account was now flagged as "changed" I no longer qualified for the grandfathered plan I was on and it took 8 months (numerous letters and what seemed like hundreds of hours on the phone) to sort it out to get me back on my original plan.

Not saying that it causes a problem, just something to be careful about :)

You have to understand that WE HAVE to make a sales attempt on EACH CALL, if not we loose our quality point, and therfore our bonus

Account flagged as cottage are also flagged manually, not throught some form of automated system

Phage please don`t hold your breathe for that to happen, it may be determential to your health.

Bell like all other provider are comited to let the client know what new channels are available and what they are, BEFORE they suscribe, may it be HD channels, Sports 3 theme (FIGHT-GOLTV-WILD-WORLD FISHING) that was also offered in free preview when it come out, or SKY, our new Italian channel . Each time we have a free preview we offer a trial period free of charge, so that client has a chance to see whether he likes it or not BEFORE you suscribe

Of course if you decide you want them after the free preview there is monthly cost involved. Bell doesn't force you to take it taught. When the free preview ends channels are removed. If you call and we add, we tell you exactly how much it will cost you on that call

The channels were in free preview until November 30th, if i'm not mistaking...now they are part of the HD VALUE PACK, and are NO LONGER FREE!

I said that the agent will try to make a sales attempt because if you call to add those channels to your current HD pack it does make an upgrade for the agent, we also have to make a sales attempt on EVERY CALL

This may be my problem. I just signed up for HDTV with my old programming still active. A lot of the HD channels like equator are still red

Just want to throw in my .02 cents. It would be cheaper for Bell to make the changes instead of customers calling in. Ask your manager how much it cost's evertime a customer calls into a call centre? The reason why bell doesn`t do it is because they want CSR`s to try and sell you something new or a new package.

If you got the Legacy package (Canada Digital Advantage is part of the Legacy programming) you will not get the newer channels.

We can not add them under the Legacy package...

The only way to get them is to switch over to the current Genesis packages

My opinion about the Legacy package and a few clarifications:

-Last summer Bell has told us that all client would have to switch (they were saying if I recall by July 1st) or else at that date the will be switched to the base and would have to call us to "update" their themes. They told us we could no , longer do upgrade or downgrades in the system. Bell was too afraid of the result and finally decided clients could stay on Legacy, but the no modification rules still applies

-They then said it will happen for September, but again, too afraid they changed their mind, but told us the no modification rule still applies.

-At the beggening of this year many clients with Legacy packages received a letter that their term will expire in the next 60 days. We were told that clients has 2 biling cycles to "update" to Genesis, or else at the beggening of the third they will be put on the base and they would have to call to add the themes.

-Finally in March they decided to go on with the price increase and changed the rules and decided that Legacy client could keep their packages, but there woul be an increase of 5$ on their base (clients with Genesis who were already paying more for the same programming had the increse in February of 4$). They also started alllowing us to make downgrades and upgrades staying on Legacy. the only problem is that codes for recent programming were never added to the Legacy portion of our programming choice. And we can not mix Legacy and Genesis programming. The code for the HD will give you just a certain amount of channels, we can not add Sports 3 or Divertissement plus

Clients often complains that Bell tries to force them to move to Genesis and complains that Bell don't care! This is totaolly not true! If that was the case why woudn't they had gone with the original plan and totally eliminate Legacy last summer? Because they care about customers! They knew that we will loose lots of client doing this and that for certain clients it will represent a 10-15$ increase right there. Have you ever evaluate how much it cost Bell to keep those Legacy packages? 1 days of the training, programming brochures they need to print, many suspervisor calls of angry clients when they get migrated, and so on... There is truly no advantage for Bell to keep that programming, it only make our lives more complicated, but they do to keep clients happy.
