While I think its a good city and all that isn't it fair to assume that the dodgy scheming british government knew this looming recession was inevitable and given the hindsight of the 1981 strength of protest from Liverpool during the horrible Thatcher regime, it was strategically decided to placate Liverpool with this 'badge' in the hope of avoiding a repeat against the gloom tensions and related troubles soon to come britain's way. If not then why hasn't much of the rest of the city been spruced up and its all top show ?
