why isnt galactic civilizations II working?

ok so this is the weird thing.. i have the game and i installed it yesterday.. and today i went to play it and it loads the black screen and the cursor and then windows tells me a problem caused it to stop working.. so why would it work perfectly yesterday and not today? as far as i know nothing has changed.. i have no internet at my house so i dont think i wouldve got a virus or anything between then.. and i tried reinstalling it like 2 or 3 times and it still isnt working so any help would be much appreciated... btw im running vista 64 bit
