Structure.... The Monte Carlo and the Impala's unibody would have to be reinforced in order to do that. Mostly because of the HP and Torque that the engines they would need to put in them to justify it would put out.
There's a shop down the road from the one I work at that is custom building a Monte with rear wheel drive. I talked to guys for a while when I saw it and asked why they were striping the whole car as it looked like it was already set up for RWD. I was informed that they had already built a street/strip Monte with RWD and after tinkering around with it they decided to go with a bigger motor. On their first trial run, the torque from the LS7 twisted the car enough to shatter all the windows in the car and render the body useles.
It's a nice idea, but in the end, it would require spending too much money in R&D that Chevy doesn't have right now.
But if they made one..... I'd buy one.
