Why is there so much distrust towards well-educated people in America?

Some Americans insult them by calling them "Elitists"
Many of you conservatives know that the liberals are better educated than you are, so you come to the conclusion that you can't trust well-educated people, since you most certainly can't trust liberals, because Rush Limbaugh says so
Many of these answers are just proving my point...
