Why is there a huge HP drop on automatic transmissions Mazda RX8?

This has always bothered me. Is there an internal difference in the RENESIS like a bigger displacement or a better rotor or something else?

car companies rate the cars power by the crank hp of the engine, so it has nothing to do with the efficiency of the transmission ( autos do rob more power then a standard although)

my guess is that the automatic cannot handle the full power of the engine so they had to detune it a little for reliability.
