Why is the Wii wireless so flakey?

My Wii had been running fine, and then it stopped connecting about 3 days ago. I finally got around to entering the error code at Nintendo's site, and the solution was to change the wireless channel to 1 or 11. I changed it to 1, and that fixed the issue. Prior I was running on channel 3.

But why did I have to change? Both my windows laptop and my Mac Mini were using the wireless just fine, with an excellent signal strength. Why is the wii wireless so flakey?

This is my only Wii complaint, I'm loving it so far. But Nintendo really messed up the wireless. As soon as the wired adaptor is available, I'm getting it.
 
Most routers are on channel 6, which is a very busy channel. Switching to 11 fixes this simply because its a less used channel.

Its not a Wii issue. Changing to a different channel doesnt disadvantage you in any way.
 
It is a Wii issue, because evbery other wireless device I own connects flawlessly and quickly on every channel, except the Wii. It HAS to be on channel 1 or 11 to work.
 
Do you not use much wireless shit or what? Or perhaps you just don't understand wireless channels?

Why is it a big deal if there is a quick fix that solves the problem?

It's wireless's fault. Not the Wii
 
I've connected my Wii to a router both at mine and my friend's house. No problem whatsoever connecting to either one of them
 
i've had no trouble and i've brought my wii over a few people's houses and used their wireless

they do all have netgear routers set on channel 11, because i set all of them up for them
 
It's a big deal because what if all of my neighbor's are using channel 1 and 11, and it's so congested, that i need to change channels? This happened at my dad's place. Look, I love my Wii, but Nintendo is not a divine entity. They make mistakes. The wireless in the wii is subpar, and has issues.
 
I agree there are some issues with the wireless. There are quite a few reports of people who can't run 802.11g and have to revert to a 802.11g/b signal while there are others who run 802.11g just fine. Same with the channel issue. Whether this is firmware or hardware issues or just a shitty wireless receiver in the Wii, I couldn't tell you.
 
The Wii uses Connect24 which uses alot of traffic because its on 24/7. It needs a less busy channel in order to work properly.

Do you have a device that is similar to this? Your Wii is working 100% fine. Your neighbors router is most likely using channel 6.

Changing your channel to 11 is not going to effect you in any way whatsoever.
 
It could be a router issue. There are new firmwares released all the time because of new hardware and software being developed. I remember my XBox network connection was shit when I first got it, and it WAS hardwired. Ends up I had to get the newest firmware for my router and then it ran like gold.
 
It might be. Like I said above. When I got my XBox the network connection on it was terrible. After searching some sites I found my router needed the newest firmware to fix the problem. I got the firmware and it was fine. Now, I don't know if the XBox had a problem and the router firmware worked around it, or if the router had an issue and the firmware fixed it. I didn't care. It worked after that.
 
I have devices that are on my wireless 24/7, and they have no issues.

The issue isn't that changing channels won't affect me, the issue is that the Wii's wireless is flakey and requires me to do this. It should be able to run on any channel, like EVERY other wireless device in existence.
