Further, why is there a recession as the Western World has been swinging right? This isn't something new, this "top-down" trend has been going on since the 80's in the US.
To me it seems that over the past 20-30 years, the propaganda coming from the right in the US, as well as in some other country's, has become very good at pointing the finger and directing attention away from the folks who are profitting the most off of us, and pointing the finger elsewhere. Besides, I would hardly call this type of thing as "opposed to tradition" either... it's gone both ways through history... the rise of the Nazi's during the 20's and 30's, was the German right-wing party misdirecting people during hard times, pointing the finger at Jews, Gypsies, Liberals, Actors, Artists, etc... and using their economic crisis, to sweep into power.
On the other hand, in the US during the 30's, we suffered through 3 consecutive right-wing presidents, which led directly to the Great Depression (In the US aka, the 1st Repub Great Depression). This did see a leftward swing in this country, but the right was still hitting with everything they had, and trying to keep the money headed upwards.
I think what we've seen today, at least in the US, is that the right have become the party of corporate America, and theu now have a tremedous amount of money to us, and are now much better with the marketing of their propaganda... and they now have a lot of tools for their misinformation at their disposal.
