The Gov't we have today is base a lot on the British Parliament and many of our laws on the books today stem from English Common Law. You combine that with the fact that they are our Mother Land as far as culture goes and a common language then you get a close relationship. It is of interest to note how different the world would have been had the Founding Fathers voted to use German as the Common Language, they almost did that and English won by a close vote, especially since German is the largest ethnic group to this day. A very different world we would have today indeed.

Because when you look into History. It was Britain who was our mother country before we rebelled and gained our independence from them. The 13 original colonies were all British territory until after the American revolution. Those 13 colonies are all states today. Just type in the American Revolution on Wikipedia or Google and you'll get much more detailed information.
