Why is the state of Iowa always in the mainstream media news regarding choosing...

...the presidential candidate's? This has always irked me. I am interested in hearing what people on the west coast and everywhere else have to say about choosing candidate's.

I'm from the Southeast and I think its an outdated way of doing things. I think its time to change! This literally pisses me off.

I think Iowa is considered "mainstream" America, one of the most generic places in the country, where candidates have the best chance of being heard by a cross-section of every demographic of Americans.

That's the theory anyway.

Because the early primary states, like Iowa and New Hampshire, seem to winnow out candidates. If a candidate doesn't do well in these states, then they some times have trouble raising money and gaining support elsewhere. I wouldn't blame the media for all the attention that Iowa is getting-the blame rests firmly with the major political parties who set the rules for scheduling the primaries, the Democratic and Republican parties are the groups responsible for making Iowa and New Hampshire the focus of attention.

Don't think Joe Schmucks opinion has much to do with it -- Michigan wanted the primary here a little early -- Billary and the bunch took their names off (no loss in my estimation) & I found out that the 2 party system is hooked up with the legal mish mash. ____ Iowa ? who knows what wand was passed to set up the sytem ?
