M Misc Tech Advice New member Dec 6, 2009 #3 Same arguement of why you don't get full hard drive space on the box. They use the standard prefix for giga, which means 1000. A true gigabyte is 1024 megabytes. This leads a true gigabyte to be inherently larger than a decimal based gigabyte, of which you lose usable space.
