No, it's in the movie. Simba asks if Timon and Pumbaa have any antelope, zebra, hippo, ect., and they tell him flat-out, "Listen, kid, if you're gonna live with us, you gotta learn to eat like us." From that point on, Simba only eats bugs.

That's true about Simba eating only bugs, but I figured that he went back to eating wild animals once he became the king of his pride. I also kind of thought that bugs could kind of count as meat.

As for The Land Before Time, that was also true about the Sharptooth there, but Chomper in the fifth movie, and in the eventual series, was shown in a more positive light. Although, he did have to eat bugs in the series so we're back to that point again as well.

I always wondered how Simba could grow into a large, healthy lion on a diet consisting of just bugs.
