I'm a Libertarian, too.
Personally, I don't watch the News at all, I look at headlines in several newspapers, Yahoo, AOL, CNN, and I do websearches on stories that interest me.
Now, here's the answer to your question, how did the Media get so unbalanced.
Back when I was in College, in the late 70's to early 80's, I recognized that the easiest four year degree was Physical Education, followed by Education, and the third easiest was Journalism. These people graduated with a degree that said they could report the News without knowing ANYTHING.
Here's an example: Opening days of Gulf War I, three morons are in a hotel room in Baghdad, and it's 2am there. They said they could hear helicopters outside their windows, but didn't know if they were Iraqi or American. I was thousands of miles away, and I knew. The Iraqis didn't have night-flying capability. I realize that not everyone knew that, but it wasn't classified information, and anyone sent to cover a potential war should have known that. They didn't even think the question worth asking.
Next day, same three morons notice that the communications equipment on the roof of an apartment building has been destroyed by small arms fire. Then they went on to some other observation, not even considering the fact that while taking out that equipment was of military importance, it could have been done by destroying the building with a Cruise missile fired from a submarine in the Persian Gulf. They never thought of asking why it was done with small arms fire, and what that says about the Americans avoiding "collateral damage." And these three became stars for the next decade or so.
Basically, journalists are morons. That's why the news is so unbalanced that it isn't even accurate.
