Why is the media so obsessed with Michael Jackson?

He was an important icon to the whole world. He made music history. However the media is going over broad they only play it because it gives them high viewer ratings. They said that MJ's memorial had an eye boggling view rate but why wouldn't it since it was the only thing on on every channel for the whole day.
 
you want to know why? because as soon as he die the internet crashed with people trying to find information about him. because ever since he die the people became obsessed with him. you are also the reason why the media is still talking about him.
