Why is the Indian culture oppressive to women ?

How come Indians treat women like 2nd class citizens ?

Why are women only valued as a bridal material ? And if they get old, widowed, or they are not attractive ..they are ignored by society ?

Why do they keep women in poverty ?

I would say it is because they are not confident in themselves. A person confident in themselves doesn't need to put down anyone else. This is not an excuse, just a reason. Male ego is a big thing in a lot of cultures. They ought to level it out with humility and love.

CONSERVATIVE Indians tend to see Indian women as "child bearing, homely" individuals. There arent many traditional Indians left in India, due to the huge outsourcing and opening of the economy. Now it is usually a STEREOTYPE. This is very similar to how in the USA, people believed that women belonged in the house, cooking and cleaning. Not any more in the USA, and India is following that same route.

That's really hard to say why it happens but not too long ago Americans treated their women the exact same way.
It's sad to say but this is a man's world and unfortunately women are seen as nothing but breeders to some.
Hopefully someday soon Indian men will treat women as their partners in every sense of the word and inequality will be a thing of the past.
And FYI the western world is just as, if not more youth obsessed!
