Why is the home and away advantage so strange in baseball?

Why does game 5 go to the worse record team but at the same time game 7 goes to the better record team.
Who makes this up (in the mlb) this is the dumbest of any major league sport (compared to nhl, nba, or nfl)
nhl is definately the more fair one. Rewarding the worse team for game 5 is strange but giving 2 away games is also not fair. (back to back). I dont count the first 4 games because both teams get them.

Game 5 in a 7 game is meaningless in terms of elimination because that means the series would be 3-1.

There's only so many ways to split 7 games so the team with the better record gets 4 out of 7 games at home.

Both the MLB and NBA use the 2-3-2 format. What's so bad about that? Yes, the team with the slightly worse record gets three straight games at home, BUT if that team fails to lose either Games 1 or 2, then they have to clinch the championship on the road. Thus, the team that has Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 ultimately only needs to win one of the first two to be guaranteed a chance to clinch at home.

The NHL uses the 2-2-1-1-1 format, which involves more traveling for both teams but still gives the team with the better record at least 4 home games.

7 teams.....just the way the schedule goes. I schedule multiple teams in my job and with an odd number that's just the way it works out. Thats all there is to it...nothing weird about it.
