Why is the history of Blues Important?

I am in a college music class and need to write a two page paper about this. Our teacher is very particular and I don't have enough to build on. Any help is appreciated
 
Blues comes from easing the pain and suffering of life.
It was originated in the United States and helped create
another American original--Rock and Roll.

Everyone in the world feels down every now and again and the Blues is now universal. The Blues appeal to everyone.

Where it came from (the history) is important in understanding human nature.
