Why is the College Football ranking system so screwed up?

So after beating Toledo and shutting them out, a team which scores 40+ points regularly, Ohio State fell 2 spots in the AP poll. I assume this is because they barely lost to USC and USC lost to Washington. If USC is percieved as overrated, then why did Washington enter the top 25 even with one loss to LSU. And LSU has moved up from 11 to 7 after beating not one ranked team, and two of them were Vanderbilt and Louisiana-Lafayette? I guess Ohio State has no respect.

The SEC is seriously overrated. Only Alabama has played a decent team, and VT is nothing away from the home refs.

Miami and cincy should be ranked much higher. How does USC fall less than Oklahoma when USC loses to Washington and OU loses to BYU under very extenuating circumstances? OU just shut out two straight teams including the #1 offense of the last two seasons!

Florida and Texas have played no one and looked like crap doing it. Alabama should have leap frogged them.

Toledo has no defense and got blown out by Purdue and beat a bad Colorado team from the Big 12, that shows some light from their perspective.

The pollsters feel since USC beat Ohio State @ Ohio State they deserve to be ranked above Ohio State. They don't realize that USC always chokes away at least one game a year to an opponent that they should completely dismantle and I'm pretty sure there's some SEC bias as the "toughest conference" which had something to do with LSU's ranking.

And for some reason Oklahoma moves up after they lost to BYU who in turn got DESTROYED by Florida State so why they didn't go down I don't know.

Overall the system is biased, flawed, and opinionated and probably not based on any facts whatsoever.

Look at Ole Miss, why should they be ranked in the top 5, thats what is screwed up, Ole Miss is and never will be a top contender. Like last year with Boise State, Ole Miss shouldn't be allowed in the top 5. It is a disgrace to College Football. Nut must be paying someone well.

The whole concept of ranking teams before they have 4 or 5 games under their belt is ridiculous. How can you base a teams quality on how they look on paper? The games are played on the field. Let them hold off like the BS polls do (wow, finally found one good thing about the BS). Hope this helps.

Is Penn State deserving of the #5 spot? Who have they played? I think the pollers are getting gun shy with Ohio State. Each year they put them on a pedestal and because they have a weak schedule yearly no one knocks them off the pedestal until they go to the NC game once again and get soundly defeated. I think they may be waiting a while to see if they do deserve to be ranked with real contenders.

All the more reason for a playoff. That way if someone is ranked, if they are truly good then they'll win and the frauds will go home.
