why is stereo mix recording terrible in vista?

when i tried using iSound to record something in the computer, the result was really scratchy like those you would listen to in AM radio stations. This is really a nuisance to me because it worked crystal clear before but now it's gone bad. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me solve the problem???
