Why is socialism a bad concept. No personal ranting and ravings?

I would really like to know, with out anger, why socialism is a bad thing.

Americans have been brought up to fear it without really understanding it. Think of what Alaska does with its oil revenue: they re-distribute it to the people because the understanding is that it is the people's land and so it is the people's profit. That's how socialism works.
