Wasn't that revealed at the end to be part of his big plan? That he would lure the Simpsons to the resurtant, restrain them and leave them to die, specifically get information wrong so he'd have to look it up on the internet, get sent to jail, have himself plead criminally insane thanks to Bart, make it look like Bart killed him, guilt him into coming to the funeral home, and then offing him while making it look like he'd die so he'd be able to get away with it? So yeah he was just focusing on killing Bart then, even if it looked like he was going after the Simpson family first.
Well as shown in "Black Widower" the two did wind up falling in love, but Sideshow Bob's anger at McGuvyer, and the fact if Selma bought it he'd be wealthy, he decided to try offing her, but was found out by Bart. At this point he wasn't trying to kill Bart. That would be in the next episode with Bob in it, along with most episodes after that.
Actually this is a point I've been thinking of for years but only now have I found a place to actually comment on it:
Is Bart even a threat to Sideshow Bob anymore?
I mean think about it, Bart foiled his attempts the first three times, but the seven since then didn't really have much to do with Bart.
"Sideshow Bob Roberts" - Lisa was the one who found out Bob's scheme about using the Pets to give votes for Bob, as well as the one who found out how to trick him to confess. She's also the one who found out that Bob was on the radio in the first place.
"Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming" - Though Bart was able to knock himself away from Bob on the plane, Bob's plan failed because he didn't pick a working bomb, Krusty still tried putting on material even after Bart's threat, Lisa pointing out to the air force where Bob was, and Bob's insane rage over Krusty. All Bart did was stall for a few seconds, and he got kidnapped right away after that which negates any stalling.
"Brother From Another Series" - Cecil was the one who was plotting and Bob was the one who helped Bart and Lisa thwart him. Bart saved Bob's life and Bob saved Bart, but really the two Simpsons would of given up if it weren't for Bob.
"Day Of The Jackanapes" - Bart plays one joke on Bob, but Bob pretty much had him at his mercy for half the show. He tied him up, brainwashed him, and was going to blow him up. Bob had a change of heart at the very end but it didn't have to do with Bart but rather his relationship with Krusty.
"The Great Louse Detective" - Bob never had an evil plan until the very end where he tried offing Bart quick and would of done it but he had grown "accustomed to his face" and didn't. Otherwise Bob would of totally gotten away with stabbing Bart right in the stomach.
"The Italian Bob" - Krusty's arrival in the car was what saved the Simpsons, nothing else.
"Funeral For A Fiend" - Sideshow Bob and his family have Bart in the coffin with no way out, until Lisa figures out his plan and gets help to save Bart. But Bart didn't do anything to stop Bob, like at all.
Really it's been 15 something seasons since Bart even could come close to claiming he foiled a Bob plan. Why is Bob focusing so much time on him when it's obvious Lisa is much more a danger to his plans and he could kill Bart pretty much the same way he tried in "The Great Louse Detective?"
