Why is sex one of the basic human needs?

I'm talking about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.

And what happens if you never do it (assuming your not asexual or something)?

Do you just go crazy or what?

Sex is part of our genetic make-up if someone didn't need it and the world could go on fine without it than the human population would go extinct. We need sex to stay alive (not like if you don't have sex you'll die, but like if we don't have sex there will be no one left on earth). No one will go crazy if they're deprived from sex unless you have a sex addiction. Humans are one of the few animals that have evolved enough to actually make a choice on whether or not they want to have sex.
