Why is Salmon, the fish, such a popular American favorite?

Nearly every time I visit the grocery store, and in adverts, I always see salmon depicted in photos and on TV. Why?? Is this the only fish Americans enjoy? What is so special about salmon? There are many other species of fish in the world but I mostly see only salmon being offered to the American public. I'm just curious that's all.

Thanks.

Salmon has a great mild flavor and is easy to fix. It is better for you then cat fish and other "fish". Like above the fatty omega 3 oils and high in huge amounts of minerals. Its reasonable prices and we do produce a large quanity of it.

Americans are very health-conscious, particularly in "after the fact" situations like surviving a first heart attack and having to learn how to plan meals for cardiac repair and healthiness. Salmon is touted, rightfully, as a high protein & omega-containing foodstuff, and leads the fish lists as best to eat. Salmon 'fat' is goooooood 4 U. Plus which it tastes scrumptious if prepared as simply as possible. Salmon is a strong-tasting ocean fish and doesn't give itself to frenchified saucing [heart-healthy!] or battered fry-ups [double heart-healthy!].

Salmon is just one of the fish we have a lot of, especially in the pacific northwest. It's been a staple in native american diets in that area for centuries. Also, salmon is just plain healthy for you. Its loaded with omega 3 fatty acids (unsaturated fat, the good kind).

go to any supermarket and theres lots more than just salmon. i guess they all use it to advertise is because its got a good reputation as a very healthy fish to eat. kinda makes sense, you wouldnt want to see ads for ugly fish that might turn ya off from buying fish in the first place. i like salmon more than any other fish myself. at least fish that isnt fried or made into a chowder. good stuff
