Why is Sally Acorn hated among Sonic fans?

I'm a big fan of the Sonic game series (up until Heroes and Advance, that's when they lost me), the Archie series (until they started going to high-school), and the TV series (SatAM only). I have never had a problem with Sally. Part of the charm of the video games in the pre-3d world was that they had no story line, just good hedgehog stops bad Dr from turning animals into robots. That's it, no more. They needed to create additional characters to form a story. I think they did a good job. As for Tails, there was little to work with based on the games. In every other series he just comes off as a Sonic wantabee, at least SatAM used some depth in their characters.

If you're talking about the same episode I'm thinking of, he didn't just turn off the lights, he blew up Robotnik's backup generator(They disabled the main one earlier in the episode) That's why they were celebrating, because Robotnik's lab no longer had any power.

One more thing I alluded to but didn't mention in my previous post... even though Archie Comics does have its independent storyline with all of these characters they created, Sally included, note that everything they do still has to be approved by Sega. Which is why I think, and most people probably would agree, that for that reason alone, Sonic and Sally would never get together as a couple. It will only be if Sega allows it, and considering their current spin on Amy still having an infatuation for the blue 'hog, it probably never will be.

Sonic just didn't cut off the lights. He destroyed the main generator, and later the back-up, which powered all of his factories. That was a big, albeit, temporary setback for Robotnik... one that gave the Freedom Fighters more time to prepare for what came next.

And thank goodness to that. I'd shudder to see anything resembling the 'black sheep' of the Mario gaming legacy.

This really hasn't been emphasized in the comic lately and usually when it does, it's merely a flashback when she was younger (such as the current issue when she was 10 and cried out her love for Sonic by proclaiming that sally wanted Sonic all to herself). I mainly think it's because Amy has
1.) matured greatly and she has, although she still keeps a sunny personality
2.) The comic is currentyly dealing with Sonic and Sally's harsh breakup

And thank goodness to that. I'd shudder to see anything resembling the 'black sheep' of the Mario gaming legacy.

I think I'm one of the few who loved that film to death.

Sally is okay to me. I like her a lot. Personally, whether she gets with Sonic is lot is heavily debated. It's approriate to say that she'll get with Sonic in Archie and Amy get with Sonic in the video games, but with people arguing all the time on who wants to be with who is gonna keep continuing. Personally, I stay out of this mess when it gets too much and say Sonic should be alone (although that is only my two cents).

Sally is not a Mary Sue . . . if anyone is a Mary Sue/Marty Stu, it's Geoffrey St. John from the comics. Sally made mistakes, there were consequences to said mistakes (mostly people winding up roboticized), and she displayed a suitable amount of regret/angst upon learning of those people's fates. Not too much angst, mind you, just enough to represent the pain of a leader who led some of her soldiers to their doom. She had flaws too, she was a bit of a workaholic, and didn't really know how to relax, at least not as well as Sonic did.

Sally served two purposes. first was to be a 'mary sue' the other was to attract more female viewers by giving them a girl 'hero'. I have no problem with the latter, sure it's not accurate to the original story but you have to make some consessions to reach a larger demographic(especially when dealing with children's cartoons).
however making her both, sort of counteracted both goals as it brings the message "sure girls! You can be a hero too! Just be the girlfriend of one!"

Yeah, everybody dislikes amy. I mean, she's an annoying sonic fangirl.
BUT, that's exactly what's she's supposed to be. An easy to dislike, annoying, sonic fangirl. Even sonic avoids her at all costs. The audience is reacting to her exactly as they should.
Alot of people disliking sally however, is another story. That's not how her character is supposed to be interpretted.
