Why is Sally Acorn hated among Sonic fans?

Some of you may not know of this, but Sally Acorn is widely bashed, hated, and disliked among Sonic fans (mostly from the archie comics and Sonic X). Many of them are hardcore Sonic x Amy or Amy fans. I'm not too familar with the Archie comics, but I have rather fond memories of Sonic SatAM. Since Sally doesn't appear in the anime Sonic X, that may persuade more fans to go more into Amy. Maybe Sonic fans find Sally less appealing in the comics than in the SatAM show. I didn't really see what was so bad about her in SatAM. Can anyone explain?

Many feel she was a character invented and forced upon into the spotlight by DiC so that Sonic could have a girlfriend. Meanwhile original characters like Tails became mere background characters.

LFV has it. She doesn't really look like a Sonic-styled character either.

Sally HAS appeared in two Sonic games, though only shortly after the release of the TV series to tie it in: Sonic Spinball, and the original Sonic CD on Sega CD in which the Amy sprite was changed into a Sally sprite, sad but true. We didn't get the official debut of Amy until Sonic CD was released for the PC.

I have nothing wrong with Sally. It seems Antoine is more hated than Sally by most Sonic fans. I kinda feel sorry for Antoine, though.

I dunno, I thought Sally was well liked, enough for people to bring her back from the dead in Endgame.

... I so wish she had died when "Sonic" through her off that building in Endgame though.

That's quite a surprise to me, but at the same time, I see where they would be coming from. Myself, I'm a firm Sonic/Sally believer, if only for the fact that Amy looks way too young for Sonic. Of course, the opposite side could debate more for Sonic/Amy because Sally's not even a hedgehog.

If you believe more in the American/Archie comics side, then you're probably for Sonic/Sally. If you're for the Japanese/games side, then you're with the Sonic/Amy camp. Honestly, it's a debate that's been going on for years and will go on for several more. The funny thing is, even if Sonic and Sally do officially get together in the Archie series, if a Sonic/Amy union were to happen close behind, the latter would probably be considered canon for all Sonic fans and the staff behind Sonic himself.

People have different views on the different versions of Sonic, and because they exist, the debates will exist forever more. Some people will like Sally, others will hate her. That split's always going to be there until either Sally or Amy are written out or Sonic fades out of existance. Whichever comes first.

Sally might have never been used to her full potential in the tv series, but Ken and Karl over at Archie have been sending the poor lass through the wringer for the past 8 years.

Most have listed the reasons. She's a character the American fandom make much too big a deal of and what they've done with her and Sonic just goes against the latter's character. The true Sonic is a clear loner- he has friends, but he hates to be tied down. So him pursing a relationship with a princess just doesn't feel right. If someone wants to create annoying characters that are increasingly being drawn to give furry fans some kicks, please keep them away from Sega's classic characters.

I think it's a side-effect of people not liking SATAM in general because it's not 'sonic-ish'.

I mean, they put sonic into this dystopian future with all these 'fanfiction' characters, without loops or special computer monitors or any of the cool stuff from the games. Granted, it's hard to write a story about a hedgehog that runs around really fast by himself collecting rings and jumping into things to save the day...(on the other hand, that is what sold the games so well so I don't see why they didn't try this).

I remember being so confused by that show when I was little. Like sonic being all sad his uncle was turned into a robot. I was all, "Hello? Just jump on his head you dumbass!"

I would never go out of my way to watch Sonic SatAM or read the Sonic comic books. They are fanjerking pieces of cyberpunk trash that have nothing in common with the video games. I'm just glad they didn't make comic books based on Mario Bros: The Movie (which has the same exact problem).

Matt, you are my hero. O_O

Honestly, I prefer 'Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog' to SatAM, and to a certain extent, 'Sonic X'. Granted, AoStH was the worst of the three ('Sonic Underground' is Sonic in name only), but it wasn't depressing fantrash (SatAM), nor did it have an insipid kid as the main hero ('Sonic X').

Sally, simply put it, is a Mary Sue to the nth degree, right up there with Chris Thorndyke, Rick Wheeler, Raiden and Fara Phoenix from the Nintendo Power 'Star Fox' comics. (Thankfully, Nintendo had the common sense to ditch Fara, despite the bemoaning of oldschool SF fans. Heh, if only Sega would do the same to Sally....) I couldn't stand Sally back in the day, and I sure as hell can't stand her now. XP

Even though it's concidered fan fiction to the real story, Sally was a better heroine than Amy any day. Atleast she had some backbone and carried a pistol.

If anything, these furry fanatical artists they have working for Archie the past couple of years have really dragged down Sonic's reputation. No kid wants to see a female hedgehog with the chest of Anna Nicole Smith constantly making hints about adult situations. Jeez!

On another note Antoine is my favorite character in the Sonic comic universe. He had the best dialogue, the funniest moments, and he can be a strong fighter when backed into a corner.

The same could be said about Bunny, but then again this show had some really dumb plots.

One example would be Sonic running into Robotnick's lab and shutting the lights off, then running back home to party with his comrads to celebrate destroying his lab by shutting off the lights. What?! That's no different than if I were to shut off the lights in the restroom at school while you're sitting on the toliet, then run away.

I'd have liked SatAM/comics if Sonic wern't in it. (or maybe not)

But, I'd bet some of the people who love it would hate it if it were Sonic-less.

Stupid gimmiks...

I am proud to say I have collected every issue of the Archie comic book. And honestly, it's much much better than SatAM.

When I think of great comic book moments I've read, I remember Batman taking down Superman in "Hush". I remember Spider-Man taking the stand and claiming JJJ was racist in "She-Hulk".

I also remember Sonic being roboticized and nearly killing all his friends in Knothole, only to be taken down by Mecha-Knuckles.

I also remember Dr. Robotnik's final plan to defeat Sonic by unleashing the Ultimate Annhilator on Mobius.

I also remember that, with the words "Sonic has finally won it all", Snively set in motion the post-mortem plans of Robotnik.

I also remember when Bunnie's mechanical limbs proved to be toxic, she had to make the choice of a dangerous deroboticization, mechanical amputation, or replace her limbs and be forever scarred by the war.

With the Ultimate Annhilator having broken down zones, Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al went from comedic, fourth-wall breaking backstory buddies to deadly, plotting to kill each other, mechanical menaces.

Of course, I also remember how Sonic's one-billionth ring plot never went anywhere, and how Nate Morgan was nothing more than walking exposition, and I try to forget the Mobius World Tour, how Ken Penders interjected his own children into a story, and I always get a chuckle at the fact that Sonic has crossovered with both Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Spawn.

Well, you see, loner characters tend to be more defined by the connections they do make than the ones they don't have. That's the case with characters like Batman or Wolverine in the comic books. If you read the current comics, then you'd know that Sonic and Sally's relationship hasn't been on the most stabkle ground lately and that he is having a great deal of trouble with being tied down, not only to one person (or chipmunk, as the case may be) but to all the royal stuff she's connected to as well.

Personally, I like Sally. Like someone else said, she's the yin to Sonic's yang. They balance each other out. I also like the old Saturday morning cartoon and the Archie comic. Given that there wasn't much to work from at the time concerning the games, all the invented characters made a certain degree of sense. You have to remember that this is before Knuckles even made his first appearance. Heck, they even went as far as creating two versions of the whole thing in order to cover all their bases (StH and AoStH). It may not be exactly like the games, but I do know I find the world of Mobius and all of Sonic's cartoon friends to be an enjoyable addition to traditional Sonic canon. True, it may not be perfect, but it's pretty good for what it is.
