TIME's Person of the Year

Abraham Lincoln was Republican, a great President and leader. The only similarity I see is that they are both extremely ugly but knew how to work a crowd. Am I missing something?
volleyballchick: You are wrong, the parties have moved extremely far in the left direction to where modern day Republicans would be best compared to Democrats of Lincoln's day while modern day Democrats would be best compared to communists of Lincoln's era. or have you not noticed that the Constitution of the U.S. has continually got more open minded and less about protecting liberties?
Dropshortandduck: No, I expect him to be honest at least, which he is obviously not so therefore obviously not Lincoln-like. I'd vote for Jonathan Krohn for President before I voted for Obama's 2nd term.
moo goo gai pan: Obama better not be set up for 3 terms. I hope America remembers how that turned out last time. That President accomplished as much as an ER doctor treating gunshot wounds with band-aids.

The Republican Party of Lincoln's time is dead. It no longer exists. Trying to associate Lincoln with today's Republican Party is just a lie. Lincoln wouldn't recognize those people.

As for Obama: he's not comparing himself to Lincoln. He's trying to draw inspiration from Lincoln. Presidents do it all the time.

Edit: Communist parties in the 1860s? Seriously?

I don't know. Lincoln ended slavery.
Obama is instituting slavery.

Actually, Obama is comparable to Bush. Bush was for big government, Obama is for bigger government.

It is like the Wizard of OZ...Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

If he tells you he is like Lincoln and Reagan and whoever, he wants you to think that is what he is. So you will be less likely to see what he really is.
