Why is no portion of the debate focusing on the cost of prescription meds?

The US pays for 95% of the worlds drug research on the backs of the American consumer. Other developed nations cap the prices on drugs, but the companies still make a profit. I am a capitalist, but that is crazy. We should not be paying for the research of the entire world. Thoughts?
