why is my remote wire not working?

i had a deck and all of a sudden the subwoofers shut off while i was driving..i checked the rca the amp and the woofers and they worked..when i hooked the deck in my buddies car he took the remote turn on ire and touched it to the power wire and the woofers started playing. but when he took them off they stopped. so i went and purchased another deck off ebay and the same problem arised i touch the remote wire to the power wire and thats the only way the play..i need help diagnosing this problem
