Depends on his size. pinkie mice or regular mice. you can also try canned cat food. Possible live fish in a bowl of water.

It takes a little bit for savannah monitors, or any reptile for that matter, to become settled into their new environment. You were informed correctly, you should not handle your new baby for 1-2 weeks. Handling him could even be delaying his eating. This is very stressful for new arrivals because they are already feeling stressed coming into a new home. Once you handle them, it just makes it twice as bad.

This is way all reptile owners are advised to not handle them until they are acclimated. You need to leave him alone for about another week now. You shouldn't be too worried, some reptiles will not have the desire to eat until they feel acclimated to their enviroment. Yes crickets bite, they can leave him with serious wounds if you leave them in there. You need to take all of the crickets out immediately and toss one or 2 supplement dusted crickets in to see if your monitor goes after them. If he doesn't eat them within the first 5 minutes, you need to remove them.

I believe he isn't eating because he is not comforable with his environmeent just yet. I want to say this again, do NOT touch him for about another 7 days. He doesn't need to be familiar with you yet. You have several months to complete that process. If your savannah monitor does not eat what he is offered in the next 3 or 4 days, you need to take him back to the store and explain your problem.

Baby savannah monitors primarily feed on crickets, so don't buy him any other foods. When he's hungry, he will definitely eat them. Savs love crickets, emphasis on the word love. How old is he? A few weeks, a few months? This greatly depends on what he is capable of eating as well.

For now make sure no crickets are in there so he can just enjoy himself and feel relaxed, not stressed. I hope that I have not offended you in any way, I just want to give you the best advice I have. Take a deep breath and exhale. This is perfectly normal behavior. Do not worry about a thing yet.

Best of luck! (:
