Recently I woke up my Lurcher by accident as I sat next to him, he immediately jumped up with his tail between his legs and started growling and snarling at me. Every attempt i made to get near him he just backed away, he did eventually he did come back to me after me calling him. He didn't seem to know where he was. He is usually very calm and lovable. I'm wondering if this could be something wrong with him, or maybe it is a characteristic of this breed of dog.
