Why is my German Shepherd whining when he runs? Is it cramps?

My German Shepherd, Boris, will play fetch and then randomly start crying like he pulled something. But then he stops and he's fine. This happens almost everyday. He's only six, so he shouldn't be experiencing this. And if it's cramps, is there any advice to avoid this? He hasn't been drinking a lot lately, but he has total access to it. So why is he hurting?

Has he ever had his hips and elbows x-rayed?

Hip and elbow dysplasia are notorious in Shepherds, not uncommon and at six it would likely start affecting him even if it hadn't earlier.

I highly recommend you take him to the vet and have them do a full checkup and possibly get those x-rays done as well.

Maybe he ate something he wasn't supposed to or something's wrong with one of his legs.I would just take him to get him checked out before it gets worse, whatever it is. Oh and I love the name Boris!
