Why is my game broken?

So, i'm trying to play Nancy Drew games, and they all are messed up. I've updated my video drivers but still they don't work. I can't figure out why. The problem is that I can't read any of the words, or really click on anything because I cant tell what I'm suppose to be doing because the graphics aren't working right.

maybe the game is too old for the computer.

If the game is an old DOS game, it will not work on newer comps... this is a problem with the reader on the disk... and updating your video driver would just dig you deeper in the hole...
