Why is my Ford Escort Doing this>?

I have a 1995 Ford Escort and the windsheild wipers and heater both stopped working at the same time. I checked connectors and traced power all the way to the windshield wiper motor, replaced the motor still won't work. Could it be the fuseable link or something else
The heater has no power, the selector on the dash lights up but when I turn it on it will not do anything
 
Start by checking the fuses first. When you say the heater doesn't work, does that mean the fan blows air but there's no heat?
