im noticing some dark orange brown stuff on the structure and on the leaVES . its a 3 week old tank.
could be the food, and yes its live plants. and i had to use 26 gallons of bottled water cause my house water was bad. so i wanna change as little as possible. they gave me a algee suppllement that i used for the first week. i do want an algee eater

Do you use a filtering system? You need to clean your tank or you will lose your fish, get an alge eater fish, they help keep the slim away. Clean your tank and use fresh water.

How often do you feed your fish? Sometimes it has to do with what kind of food you feed them and how much it disintegrates or... in better terms, "goos" into the bottom of the tank. You might be feeding your fish more than they need.

Try buying fish flakes that help balance the pH level of your water AND leave little to no mess. Go to PetSmart. haha They can help you there.

...Also, your fish tank needs to be washed every 3-4 weeks....

Good luck

make sure you clean the tank thouroughly and it would help if you get and alagea eater they help alot but dont get one from walmart get one from somewhere like petsmart. change the water every to months but make sure its the same temprature the might die if you dont okay so do that and if it doesnt work ask another question

If it is a planted tank, expect diatoms. Diatoms are a type of algae. Every planted tank eventually encounters them, especially new ones. Do regular water changes and you should be fine.

It's probably just algae which comes in many colors, though is unhealthy for fish. Fix up (or replace) the filter and clean it REALLY well.

(no help? sorry pet care is not my niche)

hello...if your fish tank is dirty, u r probably overfeeding them or your tank is overcrowded...try getting a vacation food block and just using that for a few days. the rule of thumb is "one and one half inches of fish per gallon"..if your tank is not heated, algae eaters do not survive very well...also if your tank gets direct sunlight, try shading it when the sun is on it...hope some of this info helps u out.
